Why does everything that Beyonce touches turns to gold? I have this song on repeat. I think it's such a great melody that doesn't seem too annoying no matter how much you play it and it's got a nice genuine feel to it. So I'm a huge fan of Ella Henderson. She's a fantastic singer and I'm sorry that she hasn't released anything past Ghost in North America. And then I hear this beautiful song - Here for you, featuring this talented artist and Kygo - a DJ I've come to really like because his songs are so well put together, so well done. Case in point - Firestone - which is SUCH a great song. That's the kinda dance music I like. More on the chill side but still something you can turn the volume to the max to and "groove" to. Yup. I said groove. I really am getting older. Anyways, here you go! So this should have been my Music Monday song but what the hey! This a Tuesday feel good song for you. If you are extra tired and love those Spanish tunes, this is amazing to let loose to! This Cuban artist was a part of Gente de Zona (another amazing Latino group that I'll be posting in a few days I'm sure) and he parted ways. Went solo and now here is his new song. I can't tell you what it does to me when I'm driving home from work. It's crazy hard to pronounce in the song but who said you need to know the lyrics? :P Having lost a bit of my "love" for Rihanna, I'm trying to give her new album a listen and so far, it's not as bad as I thought. Being that I have very strong opinions concerning "Work" - I was just extremely reluctant to give her new stuff a try. I am all about the older Rihanna, where the best songs came off her Rated R album. Lately, I am just not into what she's producing, especially the first single. It's not a good song people. Well, minus Drake rapping. He's good in everything and pretty much produces gold. Sure, if "Work" was playing really loud, I'd probably dance to it and enjoy it. Then again, I dance to anything and everything, and even when there is no music playing. That's just how I roll. But, one song I actually really like is "Kiss it Better". It's got a very sultry, sexy and cool vibe - totally what Rihanna embodies. Not to mention, the video is pretty sexy. I just imagine it being one of those bump and grind songs...we don't get too many of those these days, other than the Weekend - but honestly, he's too overplayed for him to ever stay a novelty. Anyways, I included the vid here for you guys to watch. Enjoy! Again, huge apologies for the delay in posts. It seems marriage and my job has taken over but I am committing to getting back to my true passions. And, I have to keep reminding myself, I don't need to write an essay every time. Which is why I changed a bit of the wording of my blog and focused it on what matters most: music. This way, I'll write whatever I feel, whenever I want and it doesn't always have to be this big production. I have a ton to say but I find not many people share the same passion as I do for music and all that surrounds it. So here you go, please comment and share in the convo with me! :)It's actually insane that I decided to update this thing exactly a year later. In this day and age, if a person is not blogging every day, then what is the point of having a blog right? I know it's been forever but I had some good excuses. The last year for me was just a whirlwind. I was proposed to on December 30, 2014 and it was truly one of the best days of my life. Sounding unbelievably cheesy and it probably doesn't need to belong here but I feel it is my duty to share it here in case any future employers want to get a better sense of who I am. Having a full time job and planning a wedding was extremely stressful. I lost close to fifteen pounds (and I ate everything in sight). One amazing thing I learned through all of the wedding planning was my ability to get tasks done. It's not easy when you have a list of 20 things that all literally need to get tackled in one day. But, I did it. And, I have become quite the negotiator. Learning how to handle all of this actually made me stronger and a more self-confident person. A lot of people may think that planning a wedding is everyone's excuse for more attention and neglecting others but honestly, it had to be done and if it had to be, it would be done right. It's just one night of your life, but you want to know you put your heart and soul into making it the best for you, your future spouse and your entire family. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing those people genuinely happy and having a good time. Did things go wrong? Did they ever. Chicken was a disaster, music was not loud enough, dress ripped, ceremony music cut sharply and my out of town guests left early. Oh well. What I focused on was the magic of the day and the feeling of knowing my partner and I made this happen. I learned many, many life lessons and I think it's important to say it here, as it was a defining year for me in so many ways and I'll never forget how it turned me into the person I am today.
I don't even know why I haven't written in so long. I could simply say, I haven't been inspired. But then I can play devil's advocate and say, music should always inspire - so maybe I was just lazy. Or too busy. Or I kept forgetting. In any case, tonight I heard a fantastic version of Lara Fabian's "Je T'aime" sung by Lisa Lavie. As good and as goosebump-worthy as that was, I found this and it blew me away. It made me realize yet again how music can really bring everyone together, no matter race, religion or ethnicity. You sing as one entity and you love as one entity. This simply amazed me at how perfect this moment was. You might not understand the words, but I promise, it's worth it. The song is so powerful on its own, and when the crowd sings along it's like it becomes a religious experience. You have to check it out. Lara Fabian - Je T'aime Never say never. It's a saying we all hear and we all have grown accustomed to. It's become so much a part of our vocabulary that we don't really pay attention to how true it actually is. I have been listening to a lot of Tristan Prettyman's music. Don't know if many people know who she is, but she is one amazing singer. Very under the radar but I am actually so happy I came across her music - and in the best way possible too. At a Script concert a couple of years ago, she was the opening act. I was instantly hooked. It was one of those times where I wish I could re-live - as corny as that may be, especially considering it was just a concert. But we all know how much I love live music. But I'm telling you, listening to someone sing live, listening to them pour their heart out in a song - I just say, if it captures you then you know they feel like they've done their job. Ultimately, that is a musician's one and only goal - to reach you. Boy did she ever. This isn't the only song that hit me - in fact I'm pretty sure it was another song called "I Was Gonna Marry You" (which happens to be about singer Jason Mraz, look into that story...it's interesting). But, I feel, for how many times I've been playing this particular song on repeat, I felt it was necessary to post it as a Music Monday edition. And then, I realized how could I not post Say Anything. So today's Music Monday is a double feature. The lyrics in this song are perfect. For anyone who has had a hard break up, for anyone who felt like there was little hope left, this song is for you. Take a listen and I hope you like it! Tristan Prettyman - Never Say Never And here is: Tristan Prettyman - Say Anything There is nothing I can say about Jessie J because I feel there aren't enough words to describe how talented she is. I'm sure I have blogged about her in the past - but I mean, how could you not? She is so different from all the others and she continues to wow us with her pipes. I actually don't think she gets enough credit but once again I'm sure I've said that before...about many artists I choose to blog about. It's just that I think these artists should be highlighted more. They work hard and they have the talent to back it all up. They deserve as much of the limelight as the next superstar. I realize I sound like these musicians' bodyguard, but it gets me worked up to see someone not receive the recognition they deserve. So I'll just blog it here in hopes that people will agree. But, you don't have to agree with me at the end of the day. All I ask is that you not only listen to this clip, but take a look at her live performances. I don't think she's ever had a flaw - where her vocals are concerned. We won't get into her questionable fashion sense. **Make sure to check out "Personal" for a more sultry slower song - such a cool vibe :) Jessie J - Sweet Talker It's been a while since I wrote...let's blame it on the holidays :) This post is special because not only do I love this artist and have loved him ever since he crashed our airwaves with his amazing and unique dance hit "Alors on danse", but in wake of everything that has happened recently, I wanted to pay homage to a city I hold very dear to my heart. Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamt of visiting the city of love, Paris. Growing up in a French Immersion school and taking French straight through to and after university, my love for the French language is endless. Having been twice, I can't say I've ever had a bad day there. For me, it paints the whole picture of serenity and beauty....and life. Paris breathed life into my veins and I'll never forget the impact it had on me. So, here's my pick for the week by Stromae. Be sure to also check out PAPAOUTAI (also an amazing song!) Cheers to a wonderful city and I'm hoping one day it will return to its true essence of beauty, love and life. Stromae - Tous les Memes |
